Benedict T. Castriota, 72 of Bethlehem, died July 24, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna (Fichera) Castriota. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Gunning) Castriota for 13 years and of the late Rose Marie (Matteo) Castriota.

He was in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. He was in the U.S. Army in active and reserve duty for 29 years, retiring as a chief warrant officer 3.

He was a police officer with the New York Police Department (N.Y.P.D.) in the Helicopter and Highway Patrol Division for 23 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.

He was active in community organizations in New York and Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Guthsville, Hellertown and Unami gun clubs and was a youth rifle target instructor.

In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by four children, Thomas and his wife Deborah, Ann Marie and her husband Matthew Beery, Steven and his wife Ann Marie and Michele and her husband Vernon Sparks; and 23 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas, who was the husband of Maria (Argento) Castriota.
