The Hanover Stingrays Swim Team took third place at the 2012 Suburban League Championships last month at Lower Macungie.

Soleco won the meet with 1381 points, followed by second-place finisher Quakertown with 1252.5 points. Hanover scored 1025 points in the nine-team meet.

In the 15 and over age group, Liberty High School swimmers, Courtney Desh and Eric Lawrence, placed first in two events apiece.

Desh won the 50 yard breaststroke in 32.59 and the 100 yard IM in 1:04.56.

"I was seeded first in both of them, so I wanted to win. My IM was probably the closer one, especially in the backstroke, but I finished it off with the freestyle," said Desh.

Lawrence won the 50 yard backstroke in 26.88 and the 100 IM in 58.84.

Top three individual finishers in the 15 and over age group were Rachel Becker, third place in the 50 yard breaststroke in 36.12, and third place for Lawrence in the same event in 31.69, and Jarod LaSelva, third place in the 100 yard IM in 1:01.00.

"I really enjoy the summer team, and it's important to stay in shape for college, and I was in kind of a leadership position with the younger kids," Desh said. "We don't have as many older kids this year, but in all of our age groups, each swimmer dropped time."

In the 13-14 age group, top three finishers in individual events were Shannon Hogan, who placed second in the 50 yard free in 27.33 and who placed third in the 50 yard breaststroke in 35.31, Kayla Drago, who took first place in the 100 yard IM in 1:05.64, and Hogan, who took second place in the same event in 1:07.78. Drago also took first place in the 50 yard fly in 28.34, and Paige McCloskey won the 50 yard backstroke in 31.07.

Stephen Wisser placed second in the 50 yard breaststroke in 33.53, and Anthony Delcorso placed third in 34.84. Alexis Calderon took second place in the 50 yard backstroke in 29.94 and third place in the 100 yard IM in 1:06.68. John Buttillo was second in the 50 yard fly in 29.53.

In the 11-12 age group, top three finishers in individual events included Sabrina Krotzer, winner of the 100 yard IM in 1:09.09. Jessica Becker placed third in the same event in 1:12.50. Krotzer also won the 50 yard fly in 29.69, and Becker placed second in the 50 yard back in 34.01.

Top three individual finishers in the 9-10 age group were Julia Zheng, who placed second in the 25 yard breaststroke in 20:09, and Samantha Taylor, who took second place in the 25 yard fly in 16.68, and third place in the 25 yard backstroke in 17.88 and the 25 yard free in 14.84.

Jake Evert won the 25 yard free in 13.90 and placed second in the 25 yard backstroke in 16.53.

Sydney Taylor, Krotzer, Turner, Drago, and Taylor took second place in the 5 x 40 yard free relay.

Lawrence, Wisser, LaSelva, Cole Ledger, and Calderon placed second in the 200 yard medley relay in 1:49.40.
