Pete's Top-10: poll changes as Parkland jumps

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 by PETER CAR pcar@tnonline.com in Sports

Finally, a week of football that wasn't so predictable.

With Easton having a stranglehold on the poll since week one, they got their biggest scare last week in escaping Cottingham Stadium with a victory they never should have gotten, while Parkland continues to surge as they tore up Whitehall. Nazareth is still hanging around and Catasauqua looks to keep their unbeaten status in the Colonial League.

As the season has shifted to October, will the poll change as well?

1. Easton (5-0)

Last week's rank: #1

Are the Rovers vulnerable or did they just lose focus?

The Pick: Easton 28- Freedom 14

2. Parkland (3-2)

Last week's rank: #4

Trojans make a major move in the poll after crushing Whitehall. Now, how long will they stay here after this week's tilt with Nazareth?

The Pick: Parkland 31- Nazareth 28

3. Nazareth (4-1)

Last week's rank: #3

Blue Eagles stay put, but have an opportunity to jump with a win over the Trojans.

The Pick: Parkland 31- Nazareth 28

4. Whitehall (3-2)

Last week's rank: #2

Bad loss for the Zephs. Bright side is that they have Bethlehem Catholic this week.

The Pick: Whitehall 42- Becahi 14

5. Freedom (2-3)

Last week's rank: #5

This could be Freedom's last week in the poll if they don't get it right against Easton.

The Pick: Easton 28- Freedom 14

6. Catasauqua (5-0)

Last week's rank: #6

Battle of Colonial League unbeatens, but Bangor comes up small whenever it matters.

The Pick: Catasauqua 31- Bangor 13

7. Emmaus (3-2)

Last week's rank: #9

It's rare that teams move up after a loss, but Emmaus should have beaten Easton.

The Pick: Emmaus 34- Northampton 17

8. Bangor (5-0)

Last week's rank: #8

Big game for the Slaters, but this really isn't their forte.

The Pick: Catasauqua 31- Bangor 13

9. Central Catholic (2-3)

Not ranked

Vikings take over for Northampton, but take on a desperate Liberty team.

The Pick: Central Catholic 21- Liberty 17

10. Pen Argyl (4-1)

Last week's rank: #10

Another battle this weekend in the Colonial League against two top-tier teams, as Northern Lehigh (4-1) looks to jump into the poll.

The Pick: Pen Argyl 14- Northern Lehigh 13

Ÿ Teams that entered: Central Catholic (9)

Ÿ Teams that dropped: Northampton (7)

Ÿ Last week's record: 5-3

Ÿ Overall record: 31-11
