Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by MARK RECCEK mreccek@tnonline.com in Local News

Hellertown resident Anne Henshaw, wife of borough Public Works Director Tom Henshaw, publicly spoke in support of the public works department Oct. 1.

Her appearance was prompted by a short exchange between Tom Henshaw and councilpersons Gail Nolf and Tom Rieger during the Sept. 17 meeting.

During that meeting, Nolf informed Henshaw the Dimmick Park bathrooms were dirty and asked him if they are cleaned each morning.

When Henshaw told Nolf his staff ensures the restroom facilities are maintained daily, Rieger commented "We're not asking you to clean them, we're telling you, Mr. Henshaw."

Anne Henshaw stressed to council the restrooms are cleaned by the public works department every morning. She added, shortly after they are cleaned in the morning, they become dirty due to use. Also, she said daily wear and tear leads to a mess that accumulates by day's end.

"I personally think the borough is lucky to have a knowledgeable staff of public works and police," she said.

She recommended the borough post a sign outside the restrooms, indicating they are cleaned daily by the public works department. Included would be a number for the department in the event there is an issue that must be resolved during the weekend.

"I'm not going to comment at this time," Rieger said after Henshaw spoke.

Nolf was not present during Henshaw's public statements.Council did not act on her request.
