Cheer teams invited to compete

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 by KATIE MCDONALD kmcdonald@tnonline.com in Sports

The Bethlehem Catholic Cheer Team is inviting high school, recreational, and CYO cheerleading squads to participate in its fourth annual Golden Hawk Cheer Challenge, scheduled for Jan. 12.

"This is a friendly way to get teams back onto the competition mat after the holiday break before the larger competitions begin," said Bethlehem Catholic cheerleading coach, Brenda Michalska.

Divisions will be based on traditional age and size groupings. The event will follow all AACCA guidelines, and the judging panel will consist of judges from numerous cheerleading backgrounds, such as UCA, NCA, COA, etc.

All-Star divisions will be added if there is enough interest. There will also be a free jump off in each age category.

The deadline for registration is Jan. 9, and any team may exhibit only, if preferred.

If additional information is needed, contact Michalska at cheerleading@bethlehemcatholichs.org.

On the day of the competition, tickets will be sold in the Bethlehem Catholic gymnasium lobby, and seating is based on a first come basis. Doors will open to spectators 30 minutes prior to competition start time which is to be determined.

Programs featuring each team's roster will be sold at the door as well.
