ELECTION: Councilman DiGiacinto to run for controller

Three-year City Council member David DiGiacinto announced Jan. 28 he is a Democratic candidate for city controller.

DiGiacinto is a Bethlehem native and is a graduate of Liberty HS and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He served more than six years in the U.S. Air Force.

He operated his own business-consulting agency and has served on the Bethlehem Authority and Lehigh and Northampton Airport Authority boards. He has also worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, American Hellenic Education Progressive Association and the Historic Bethlehem Partnership.

In a statement, DiGiacinto said he has three decades of experience in financial management and business oversight.

DiGiacinto lost a previous bid for controller to Meg Holland in 2007.

The office of city controller provides independent monitoring of financial operation and the performance of audits, investigations and cost saving analysis for administration and City Council consideration.
