Drawing room: Enchantment Theatre Company presents "The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon," 2 p.m. May 16, in the "Family Series" at Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. The approximate 60-minute show, above, is recommended for children 5 and older. "Harold and the Purple Crayon," the first of seven picture books by Crockett Johnson, follows the adventures of an inventive young boy. Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky's-the-limit imagination. Enchantment's production combines life-size puppets, masks and music. PSO soloist: Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, directed by Music Conductor Allan Birney, presents "Piano Grandeur," 7:30 p.m. May 16, Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 W. Hamilton St., Allentown. Critically-acclaimed soloist Michael Gurt, above, joins the Sinfonia in a performance of Frederic Chopin's Concerto No. 2 in F minor for piano and orchestra. The program includes Symphony 104 in D, "London," by Franz Joseph Haydn and Divertimento for Strings by Bela Bartok. Gurt is Paula Garvey Manship Distinguished Professor of Piano at Louisiana State University. He has performed as soloist with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Capetown (South Africa) Symphony, and China National Symphony Orchestra. 10th Young Playwrights Fest: Touchstone Theatre presents the 10th year of its Young Playwrights' Festival, 7:30 p.m. May 16, Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem. The preshow celebration begins at 6 p.m. in Butz Lobby. Young Playwrights' Lab is an eight-week arts and literacy residency developed by Touchstone and the Bethlehem Area School District. This year, more than 100 plays were submitted. Six scripts were chosen. The plays, directed by Touchstone's ensemble, are performed by Touchstone actors, community performers and students. This year's schools include Broughal Middle, Calypso Elementary, Central Elementary, Farmersville Elementary, Freemansburg Elementary, Harrison-Morton Middle School, Lincoln Leadership Academy, Lincoln Elementary and Nitschmann Middle School.
