Yasso-Rothrock tourney set
The Yasso-Rothrock Christmas City Classic basketball tournament will take place this Saturday at Freedom with a slate of matchups featuring each of Bethlehem’s boys’ programs.
The varsity action tips off at 4 p.m. when Bethlehem Catholic takes on Lincoln Leadership Academy, followed by a 6 p.m. slate between Liberty and Blue Mountain. The nightcap will feature Freedom taking on Bangor at 8 p.m.
Three of the six teams in the tournament entered the week with the top power point ratings in their respective District 11 classification, highlighted by the Becahi (7-3) and Lincoln (8-2) matchup, as the Hawks are the top seed in 4A, while Lincoln is ahead of the 1A class rankings.
Liberty (5-4) and Blue Mountain (7-2) will be an interesting matchup between 6A and 5A counterparts, as Blue Mountain has always been a tough task for local teams during the postseason. One of the Eagles losses this season came on Dec. 10 to Salisbury in a 58-54 defeat.
Saturday’s finale features the Patriots (7-4) and undefeated Bangor (9-0), as the Slaters are the top ranked team in District 11’s 5A category.
Prior to the high school games, the Bethlehem feeder programs will play starting at 12:15 p.m.
All games will be played at Freedom High School and proceeds benefit the Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom and Liberty Basketball programs as well as their respective feeder programs. Donations will also be provided to the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem.
