Becahi aims for District 11 playoffs
It’s been two years since Bethlehem Catholic’s baseball team has made the District 11 playoffs and the Hawks are hoping this spring can be the year that ends that mini-slump.
Head coach Mike Grasso returns for his 30th season in charge, as the Hawks look to bounce back from an 8-12 campaign a year ago.
“The senior leadership we have is very good,” said Grasso. “Two of our top pitchers are seniors and we’re looking forward to see how they do and the defense behind them holds up.”
Some of the key players for Becahi this season include Preston Stout (Sr, 2B); AJ Abate (Sr, OF); Nate Gehringer (Sr, P/OF); Aiden Henninger (Sr, OF); Matthew Morrow (Sr, 1B/P); Donovan Stuard (Sr, C); Luke Carty (Sr,C) and Ethan Cantelli (Jr, OF).
“I think we played well enough last season, but lost a bunch of close games,” said Grasso. “I think this year’s group has gotten better and as long as our pitching stays sharp, we should be in good position.”
Gehringer and Morrow figure to be the two arms in the rotation that Grasso will lean on, but finding other players to step up is something that the Hawks will need.
