Daniel C. Scanlan, Conrail retiree

Daniel C. Scanlan, 84, of Bethlehem, died April 4, 2017. Born in St. Clair, he was a son of the late Robert D. and Helen (Mitchell) Scanlan. He was the husband of the late Justine “Jessie” M. (Uhrin) Scanlan.
He was a St. Clair HS graduate.
He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany, where he was a member of the Ordnance Battalion and tasked with rebuilding tank engines.
He was a freight conductor on the Reading Railroad, and had retired from Conrail after 35 years.
He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, the American Legion Post 379 and of the United Transportation Union.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia “Patty” Murphy of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Mark D. of Morrisville, N.C.; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Wellner of Saucon Valley; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Daniel Andrew Scanlan; and a brother, Robert Scanlan.
