Freedom’s boys’ track and field team defeated Dieruff 96-53 and lost to Nazareth 78-70 last week at Freedom High School.

Top finishers for the Patriots were Kyree Marshburn, who placed second in the 100 meter dash in 11.3 and the 200 meter dash in 23.3. Cyrus Thompson was third in the 200 meter dash in 23.6.

In the 400 meter dash, Nicholas King and Lewis Hargett tied for first place in 54.1.

Adam Boyer placed second in 2:15.0, and Kevin Pollock was third in 2:16.0 in the 800 meter run. Isaac Gross placed third in the 3200 meter run in 11:04.0.

Thawadah Rock was a double event winner in the hurdles, winning the 110 in 19.4 and the 300 in 45.6.

In the 4x1 relay, Marshburn, King, Thompson, and Peterson placed second in 44.3, just missing first place to Nazareth by .2 seconds.

The Patriots came back to win the 4x4 relay in 3:37.0 with the team of Marshburn, Peterson, Thompson, and Hargett.

In the 4x8 relay, Nicholas Bauer, Boyer, Pollock, and Gross placed second in 8:53.0.

King placed third in the long jump with a distance of 19-08.25, and Xavier Smith was second in the triple jump with a distance of 39-00.00.

The Patriots had a 2-3-4 finish in the discus where Joseph Figueroa placed second with a distance of 97-11, Jaequan Smith placed third with a distance of 93-03, and Raymond Stivala was fourth with a distance of 87-04.

Figueroa was third in the shot put with a distance of 38-04.00, and James Dailey placed second in the javelin with a distance of 119-07.

With a home track this year, the Patriots are finding that it pays to practice where you play.

“There’s definitely an advantage because every runway is different,” said Dailey. “When you practice where you’re throwing for javelin, there’s definitely an advantage.”
