Fountain Hill-Community pool to open June 10

Tuesday, May 30, 2017 by Tracy Rice Special to the Bethlehem Press in Local News

The Fountain Hill Borough pool will open June 10. The pool was originally scheduled to open on Memorial Day, May 29, but it was delayed to save on some unnecessary spending.

A Memorial Day ceremony was scheduled for May 26 at 1 p.m. at the corner of Stanley Avenue and Spiegel Street in conjunction with the Legion, and Mayor Jose Rosado will speak.

Council President Larry Rapp thanked the police and public works departments for the successful Easter Egg hunt and Arbor Day events.. “It was a magical day in Fountain Hill,” said Rapp.

Community members have approached council regarding the recent vandalism at the Fountain Hill park. Each day the park is cleaned up and the next day is littered with garbage again. The basketball rims have removed to deter the people from hanging out at the park. The surrounding neighborhoods are also suffering. Thus was born the first annual Fountain Hill cleanup day May 6. Council member Carolee Gifford and Rosado will head the committee and will meet at borough hall at 9 a.m. rain or shine. The plan is to start at borough hall and work their way up the street to clean up as much as possible. They are trying to get the community involved to take back their borough one neighborhood at a time. They are hoping to continue this every two weeks and rotating where they focus their cleanup efforts.

Council recently voted on the agreement of sale and purchase of the Fountain Hill Fire Department building for $1. There were waivers submitted to the Zoning and Hearing Board for approval, but there are still two vacancies on this board and anyone interested should contact the Fountain Hill Council.
