Kaleycik will attend Kutztown

Wednesday, July 5, 2017 by Katie McDonald in Sports

Recent Liberty High School graduate Kristin Kaleycik will continue her academic and softball career at Kutztown University this fall.

Kaleycik narrowed down her choices after identifying colleges that offered a major in marketing, but she wanted to be far away from home.

“Then I visited Kutztown after [last year’s] Carpenter Cup, and I fell in love with the campus. The coach liked me, and they have a successful team, so I did an overnight in January or February,” Kaleycik said.

Kaleycik connected with former Parkland High School softball player Taylor Knappenberger.

“She loves it there. She had nothing negative to say. She loves the curriculum, the classes, the atmosphere, and the softball program,” said Kaleycik.

A week prior to her overnight, Kaleycik met with Coach Judy Lawes, and then had the opportunity to work out with the team, which was 31-17 overall this season, the following week.

Kaleycik made her decision to attend Kutztown in the beginning of March, and once school begins, work outs will be held three times a week.

“All senior year, I was kind of stressed out because it’s going to be new, but I’m excited,” Kaleycik said.

Kaleycik currently plays for the Lehigh Valley Patriot Flames. The team took first place in the USSSA Blast at the Beach on June 18 in Ocean City, Md.
