’Canes blast ESS
Liberty’s football team got off to a hot start in last week’s season opener, posting a 39-6 romp on the road at East Stroudsburg South.
The Hurricanes started off slow, but once they got rolling, the offense didn’t stop, as they jumped out to a 32-0 halftime lead.
Quarterback Todd Erney opened the scoring with a 32-yard TD throw to Jay McGill in the first quarter.
Nasir Legree scored on the next two Liberty’s possessions, busting TD runs of 31 and 7 yards. He finished the night with 17 carries for 161 yards and two scores, while Erney added a nine-yard score on the ground.
McGill would haul in his second TD of the night just before halftime with a 48-yard grab from Tristan Reinert to widen the score.
Liberty (1-0) forced seven Cavalier (0-1) turnovers on the night, including five fumbles and two interceptions.
The ’Canes now come back to reality of playing the EPC South this week with another road game at Easton Friday night.
The Rovers took care of Stroudsburg in easy fashion last week posting a 31-0 victory.
