At the final meeting before the start of the school year Aug. 21, Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy was proud to announce that 53 new teachers were attending orientation, with an official convocation ceremony to be held at Liberty HS Aug. 23. This marks the final chapter in the district’s summer-long focus on hiring to provide the least disruption during the school year as possible.

Board member Angela Sinkler presented the report of the Wellness Committee by reiterating the new Pennsylvania law that students must now have their vaccinations by the fifth day of school, a drastic change from the previous state law on vaccinations. To assist students and parents who have no insurance, are on medical assistance, or do not have vaccination coverage, a shots clinic was planned for Aug. 31, at Liberty HS.

One of the final talking points of the evening was the foundation, and remembering the old Nitschmann MS. Until tomorrow, interested people can purchase a brick from the old Nitschmann with the profits to go to the BASD foundation to support the arts. Bricks are $25 for a simple inscription tribute to the school. For $50, a custom engraved brick can be purchased. All bricks will be available for pickup on Oct. 4 and 5 at the open house for the new Nitschmann. Orders can be placed on
