Hawks volleyball off to a good start

Wednesday, September 27, 2017 by Peter Car pcar@tnonline.com in Sports

Bethlehem Catholic volleyball coach Kelly Brown is enjoying her first year as head coach of the program and the Hawks are helping with that process thanks to a good start to the season.

Becahi is 6-3 following Monday’s loss (3-0) to Liberty, but enter a week where they can generate some momentum with contests against Allen and Easton to round out the week.

“So far, I am very pleased with how our season is going,” said Brown. “Hard work and persistence has allowed our team to continue to grow and get better every day. No matter what happens during the games, we know how important it is to get back in the gym and to work harder than we did at our last practice. Keeping the girls motivated, excited, and working hard is a great combination that we use daily.”

After back-to-back losses to Emmaus and Nazareth earlier this season, the Hawks ended that skid with a win over Whitehall in five games to catapult them to a three-game win streak before Monday’s loss to the Hurricanes.

“We, as a team, knew how important it was for everyone to step up and to prove that we could come out on top against a great team,” said Brown about the Whitehall match. “Winning the game in five sets, in their home gym, was a huge accomplishment for us.”

Liberty (7-1) has now reeled off three straight wins following their loss to Nazareth last week.

The ’Canes take on Freedom Thursday night in a city rivalry contest, as the Pates (7-3) have won six out of their last seven matches.

Freedom took down Dieruff Monday night in three games and host Easton on Wednesday before their showdown with Liberty on Thursday.
