Pates Pollock second
Bethlehem Catholic hosted last week’s cross country meet at the course at Illick’s Mill where Becahi, Freedom, and Liberty’s boys defeated East Stroudsburg North and East Stroudsburg South but lost to Stroudsburg.
In individual results Stroudsburg had four runners in the top ten, including Zachary Lar, who won the boys’ race with a time of 16:28.
Freedom’s Kevin Pollock came in second with a time of 16:57.
“We knew we had a pretty good chance against the two East Stroudsburg schools; obviously, they’re good, but we thought we could take them pretty easily,” Pollock said. “Stroudsburg, we knew was definitely a little tougher because they’ve been performing well lately, but we weren’t intimidated by them.”
Adam Boyer placed 11th in 17:39, Nick Bauer was 14th in 18:00, Billy Sweeney came in 15th in 18:13, and Josh Noel placed 16th in 18:26, all for the Patriots.
“We were all really happy with our performances,” Pollock said.
Liberty freshman Cole Frank placed fourth and teammate Paul Jensen finished less than a step behind in fifth place with a time of 17.11 to Franks’s 17:10.
“I don’t think we really paced ourselves off each other, but we run together at practice, so we like to stay together in races,” said Frank. “It felt good to be home, running on this course because we practice here a lot.”
Darlyn Fermin came in seventh in 17:23, Casey Frank placed 10th in 17:36, and Ryan Wycherley was 12th in 17:46.
Bethlehem Catholic’s Angel Negron placed 18th in 19:00 and Aaron Smith was 19th in 19:03.
This week, all three teams will have competed against Parkland, Dieruff, and Allen on Tuesday.
