Magliochetti wins 2A tennis tourney
Bethlehem Catholic’s number one singles tennis player Brenna Magliochetti repeated as District XI Class 2A singles tennis champion after defeating Notre Dame Green Pond’s Logan Lencheski 6-2, 6-1 last Thursday at Winning Touch in Allentown.
“I’m really excited,” Magliochetti said. “I had such a great time at Hershey, so I’m excited to go back.”
Magliochetti was the PIAA state singles tennis silver medalist last year.
On Thursday, Magliochetti won the first game of the district final, but Lencheski stayed close until Magliochetti pulled away in the seventh game.
“Molly [Ehrig] played her in the semifinals, so it was really helpful I got to watch that whole match. I knew I had to be really consistent and kind of wait for her to miss,” she said.
Magliochetti won five straight games in the second set.
“We had so many deuce games, I knew it could go either way, so I had to focus on every single point,” said Magliochetti.
The district singles tournament began on Oct. 2 when Magliochetti defeated Claire Olmstead from Palisades 6-0, 6-0 and Allentown Central Catholic’s Lauren Minutella 6-2, 6-0.
Magliochetti won her quarterfinal match against Salisbury’s Vivian Rogers 6-0, 6-0 and her semifinal match against Moravian Academy’s Taylor Castro 6-0, 6-0.
The PIAA state singles tennis tournament is scheduled for Nov. 3 in Hershey.
