BASD Towpath event on Oct. 12, 16 to 19

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 by The Press in News Briefs

There will be several “Tales of the Towpath” field trips for Bethlehem Area School District fourth graders from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 and Oct. 16 to 19 at the Freemansburg Canal Education Center. The center is prepared and maintained by the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor.

After studying “Tales of the Towpath”, a book by D&L education manager, Dennis Scholl, the students have an opportunity to rotate through eight “hands on” stations at the FECE. The sites include an herb and vegetable garden, an archeological dig, lessons on harnessing mules and on preserving food, all led by costumed volunteer guides.

To participate, or for questions, contact Jefferson Elementary School Principal Tracy Hirner by email at or call 610-691-1776.
