LHS divers prep for season

Liberty High School’s 2017-2018 divers are working on an assortment of dives for the upcoming season, which begins Dec. 12.

Returners for the girls’ team include Alicia Valladares, Lehanna Sine, Hannah Graybeal, Cara Kuykens, and Morgan Edwards.

“Cara is working on a couple new upper degree-of-difficulty dives, new 2.5 to 2.9 dives, and Alicia is pushing her now because she is working on dives with a higher degree-of-difficulty,” said Hurricane coach Jeff Zettlemoyer.

Sine has one more dive to learn, and Graybeal has a few in preparation for Liberty’s first meet against Allentown Central Catholic.

Newcomers to the girls’ team are Shannon Baughman, Christina Stolnick, Maya Stoeckley, and Teegan Kunkle.

“All the others are works in progress because they have not been on a diving board in this fashion and schooled in the proper way of diving,” Zettlemoyer said.

Returners for the boys’ team include Kellen Rogers and Sergio Alvarez.

“Kellen is working on cleaning up his front double pike, and he needs to get his front two-and-a-half tuck,” said Zettlemoyer. “Sergio needs to get his front two-and-a-half, and he needs to do some more reverse doubles this year.”

Patrick Adams will be a newcomer to the boys’ team, and the Hurricanes may have one or two more newcomers to the boys’ team before the season starts.

Liberty’s meet on Dec. 12 against Central will be at home.
