The Fountain Hill Tree Lighting took place Dec. 3 at the Tinsley-Jeter Triangle. This year’s tree is much smaller because the old one had become too large to maintain where it was located. The ornaments on the tree were made by Fountain Hill ES students. The Broughal MS Band provided a selection of music and Girl Scout Troop 82048 provided the song, “Where is Santa?” Larry Rapp, council president, was master of ceremony and the Reverend Robert Potts from St. Ursula’s Church gave the invocation. Desmond Kale was the honored student to flip the switch to light the tree. Mayor-elect, Carolee Gifford, said a few words to welcome everyone for attending the annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived and escorted everyone to the new facility for Epic Church two blocks from the triangle. Refreshments and snacks were provided by the Epic Church this year and members of the American Legion Post 406 were there to provide special treats for all the kids.
