FHS girls split meets

Freedom’s girls’ swim team won one and lost one last week, losing to Southern Lehigh 128-55 on Tuesday and defeating East Stroudsburg South on Thursday 109-59.

Individual Patriot winners in the meet against Southern Lehigh were Emily Justice in the 200 free in 2:23.42, and Abby Burnette in the 200 IM in 2:27.57 and in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.83.

“While I was swimming, I felt really good because I was really sore at our last meet, and my turns off the wall were really good. and I dropped a couple seconds,” said Justice. “It was head-to-head with the girl next to me. I try to focus on myself but I see the other person out of the corner of my eye, and it always motivates me a little bit more.”

Sage Hillier came in second in the 500 free, and Sarah Gill placed second in diving.

Justice, Burnette, Linda Mao, and Hillier placed third in the 400 free relay.

“We’re doing OK, but individually we’re all improving a lot,” Justice said. “It doesn’t really matter what the scoreboard says. It’s all about how our times are improving ourselves.”

Individual Patriot winners in the meet against East Stroudsburg South were Justice in the 200 free in 2:22.60 and in the 500 free in 6:27.88, Burnette in the 200 IM in 2:27.91 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.30, Hillier in the 100 fly in 1:13.55, and Mao in the 100 free in 1:05.35 and the 100 backstroke in 1:13.83.

Gill placed first in diving with a score of 212.40.

In relays, Mao, Burnette, Hillier, and Shannon Connelly came in first in the 200 medley relay in 2:11.21, and Hillier, Mao, Justice, and Burnette took first place in the 400 free relay in 4:29.53.
