Hawk boys, girls advance to EPC hoop finals
The Bethlehem Catholic boys survived a last-second shot to advance to the EPC finals.
Allen hit a desperation shot as the clock hit all zeros, but it came after the buzzer, and the Hawks advanced past the Canaries 56-54 on Wednesday night.
Justin Paz led all scorers with 17 points in the back and forth game. Ryan Santana added 11 and Ryan Young had 10. DeAndre Gardner chipped in with nine.
Tyreek Bell and Jasiah Lopez each scored 14 for Allen.
The Hawks move on to play Central in the finals. The game takes place at Liberty at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
Meanwhile, the Becahi girls pulled away to knock off Parkland 49-25 Wednesday night. The Hawks got off to a slow start in the first quarter and trailed 8-4, but eventually took an 18-10 lead into halftime before outscoring the Trojans 17-5 in the final frame.
Hope Brown led all scorers with 10 points while Taliyah Medina, Jaleesa Lanier and Natalie Rhine all had eight. Morgan Orloski chipped in with seven.
On the other side of the bracket, Central ended Freedom’s run in the EPC playoffs, 49-32. Hailey Silfies had a huge game for the Pates scoring 20 points. Jess Davis answered with 18 for the Vikettes, who will now play Becahi in the finals which are also on Friday night.
The girls game will take place at Liberty at 6 p.m.
