BASD celebrates FBLA student accomplishments

Tuesday, March 13, 2018 by Heather Nigrone Special to the Bethlehem Press in Local News

Bethlehem was well represented at the Future Business Leaders of America competition this year by students from both Freedom and Liberty high schools.

Members of the school board took a moment at the beginning of the Feb. 26 meeting to recognize the students and their great success. Subjects ranged from Public Speaking and Business Communication to Securities and Investments and Cyber Security. Of the 20 BASD students who placed at the regional competition, 10 were selected to continue on to the state conference in Hershey in April.

Board members and the audience applauded all of the students, and six of the students were able to attend that evening to receive their recognition certificates.

The board also took a moment to recognize the recent tragic events in Parkland, Florida, with board president Michael Faccinetto dedicating the moment of silent meditation in the memory of the students and families killed in recent events.

Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy also mentioned that BASD is working with local authorities and emergency management teams on understanding best practices, paying attention to daily procedures and lessons to be learned from these tragic events, to ensure continued safety in all Bethlehem schools.
