Joseph J. Kupis, shipping yards foreman
Joseph J. Kupis, 88, died March 30, 2018. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Joseph J. Kupis and Jenny (Yastrzebski) Kupis. He was the husband of Kathleen (Pratka) Kupis of Saucon Valley.
He was a 1946 graduate of Bethlehem HS.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 in Japan. He was a member of the Pa. National Guard and was on active duty during the Korean War, and earned the rank of sergeant first class.
He was a crew leader and foreman in the Saucon Shipping Yards of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 44 years until he retired in 1992.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, JoAnn and her husband Marshall Billig of Cochranville and Marie and her husband Paul Bigas of Atglen; a grandson, Jason Kupis of Washington; two granddaughters, Jenna and Amanda Billig of Cochranville; and four great-grandchildren, Brenton, Jason, Joseph and Amelia Kupis of Macungie.
He was predeceased by a son, James Kupis; a daughter, Kathleen L. Fisher; a granddaughter, Kristin Fisher; a great- granddaughter, Kaylee Fisher; and two sisters, Josephine Ackerman and Helen Piripavel.
