Freedom lacrosse leading the way

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 by Peter Car pcar@tnonline.com in Sports

Freedom’s lacrosse programs are again spearheading Bethlehem in the sport this spring.

The Freedom girls are off to a 5-2 start on the year.

The Pates faced a formidable task on Monday when they took on undefeated Saucon Valley (5-0) squad and lost to the tune of 13-5.

The Freedom boys are off to a tepid start this spring, coming into the week with a 2-3 mark following wins over Northampton and Bethlehem Catholic.

Their three losses have come to hands of Easton, Emmaus and Central Catholic, who have a combined 14-1 mark on the season.

The Pates have four games on tap this week with Saucon Valley, Parkland, Pleasant Valley and Moravian Academy on tap to hopefully build some momentum.

The Liberty girls have shown drastic improvement from last year’s 1-17 campaign, jumping out to a 3-3 mark so far with victories over nonconference opponents Quakertown, Scranton Prep and Hazleton.

The ’Canes lost to Freedom 13-6 in last week’s rivalry contest but look to get a league win this week when they take on a 1-4 Northampton squad on Thursday.

On Liberty’s boys side, the Hurricanes are 0-6 heading into this week’s tilts with Emmaus and Nazareth.

They then head into next week’s showdown with Bethlehem Catholic (0-4) as an opportunity for both teams to hash out a win.

The Golden Hawks have struggled to be competitive this spring, but this week’s matchup with Northampton could give them their first taste of victory on the season.
