LHS boys track ends up 11-0
Liberty’s boys track and field team completed an undefeated season after defeating Freedom 104-46 last week at Liberty.
Taking first place in individual events were Freedom’s Kyree Marshburn in the 100 in 11.3 and the 400 in 52.1, and Liberty’s Devon West in the 200 in 22.5 and Darlyn Fermin in the 800 in 2:03.00.
Cole Frank won the 1600 in 4:49.10 for the Hurricanes, and Kevin Pollock won the 3200 in 10:59.00 for the Patriots.
“Around the mile marker [I got ahead], and then we kind of went back and forth until the last lap,” said Pollock, regarding second place finisher Casey Frank from Liberty. “I basically kicked for the last 300 meters. I was testing him to see if he would come back or if he would concede, but he fought back. I know I have a good kick, so I knew going into the last lap, if I was within 10 meters or so of him, I’d be able to outkick him.”
Liberty’s Christian Tackett won the 110 hurdles in 15.5 and the 300 hurdles in 42.2.
The Hurricanes also won the 4x1 relay (names unavailable) in 44.3 and the 4x8 relay (names unavailable) in 8:56.0.
In the 4x4 relay, Freedom’s Marshburn, Gabe Caton, Evan Stark, and Xavier Smith took first place in 3:32.70.
“We were trying to get a PR for our 4x4 team. Our first leg got out, our second leg, they caught up to us, third leg we pushed ahead, and fourth leg we sealed it up,” said Caton.
In jumping events, Alex Reji won the high jump for the Patriots with a height of 5-09.00, and for the Hurricanes, Alex Roan won the pole vault with a height of 11-03.00, Javonte Haines came in first in the long jump with a distance of 21-02.00, and Daeshawn Teague placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 41-00.00.
The Hurricanes were first in all throwing events with Jaden Freeman winning the shot put with a distance of 44-04.00, Trevor Harris winning the discus with a distance of 119-03.00, and Nolan Beagall winning the javelin with a distance of 137-01.00.
