Lehigh Little League to get field upgrades
Lehigh Little League received more than it ever expected when the organization applied for a grant for field improvements to Game On! Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs this past March, and by May, not only was Lehigh awarded a $5,000 grant, but 50 to 75 volunteers who will aid in making those improvements this August.
“We are honored to be chosen, and for IronPigs and PPL going the extra mile, it’s mind-blowing. We’re so appreciative,” said Dave Cresci, Lehigh Little League Board Member, Secretary, and Information Officer.
On top of those two surprises for Lehigh this spring was that the IronPigs had partnered with PPL for additional sponsorship with another team of help and a new scoreboard.
“We were focused on the minors field, but we will look at all the places that need help,” Cresci said.
In addition to minors teams (ages 7-8), Lehigh has a field for its farm teams (ages 9-10), majors (ages 11-12), seniors (ages 13+), and softball.
Lehigh will have the IronPigs’ director of field operations at its disposal along with equipment to benefit all fields. Their intent is to manage the project closely, taking into consideration the playing surfaces, bases, backstops, and fencing, among other things.
“We will be able to make it a nicer place for kids to play,” Cresci said.
