Cup softball team named
The 2018 Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team, coached by Blake Morgan, was announced last week and includes 16 sophomores and juniors from District XI.
“Try outs went well, and we’re always excited to have kids show up,” said Morgan, who is coaching his third Carpenter Cup team.
Returning from last year’s team are Whitehall’s Rachel Arner, Parkland’s Kelly Dulaney, Emmaus’s Hannah Palinkas, and Easton’s Courtney Grundhauser.
Newcomers are Bethlehem Catholic’s Addison Roche, Parkland’s Kylie Hlay and Abbey Sechler, Northampton’s Nicole Secara and Hannah Boggs, Salisbury’s Emily Silberman and Peyton Stauffer, Liberty’s Julia Luisser, Bangor’s Morgan Karasak, Allentown Central Catholic’s Mya Zettlemoyer, and Easton’s Gillian Walsh, and Zariah Alvin.
“Last year, our pitching was young and our fielders were old. Now, our pitchers have experience,” said Morgan, regarding juniors Dulaney and Palinkas.
The team was officially introduced last week at the Senior All-Star Game at Patriot’s Park in Allentown, and will be introduced again at an Iron Pigs game before the Carpenter Cup tournament begins June 25.
“Any kids who take time out of their busy lives and give back to the community, it says a lot,” Morgan said.
The Carpenter Cup is a Philadelphia Phillies sponsored tournament, which will be played at FDR Field in Philadelphia, featuring teams comprised of high school sophomores and juniors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
Coach Morgan is assisted by Ed Stinner, Kyle Stinner, Ricky Sechler, and Jim Haney.
