Freemansburg Legion team looking for success in 2018

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 by Peter Car in Sports

Freemansburg’s Legion baseball team is hoping this summer will be another winning one when they take the field.

Coming off last year’s 12-6 finish, Chris Medei’s squad is hoping for a repeat performance with a relatively young team.

“This years team is going to be young with nine new players,” Medei said. “We do have a good mix of older players coming back and younger players. There’s no reason why we should not have a successful season. Our pitching should be fine with good depth and experience. We will need to consistently field the ball cleanly and put up runs offensively.”

Some of the key players for Freemansburg are David Smith P/1B, Griffin Connelly SS/P, Austin Schneck OF and Donovan Stuard C.

Newcomers include Derek Bast 3B, Nicholas Stannard OF/P and Benjamin Gormley OF/P.

“Smith, Connelly, and Schneck should pick up where they left off from last year,” said Medei. “Gormley and the rest of the young kids need to make plays to help us win. As always, our goals are to make playoffs, win our division, and the league. If the kids play smart and together we should be fine this year.”

So far, Freemansburg is 1-1 on the season.
