BC boys to play Souderton

Bethlehem Catholic made a run to the PIAA semifinals a year ago and the Hawks might be poised to equal that journey again this season. After easily dispatching Prep Charter 89-61 last Friday night, Becahi (26-3) traveled to Souderton on Tuesday night to take on District One champion Lower Moreland in the second round of the tournament.

The results of that contest are past Press deadlines, but Lower Moreland came into the game with a 23-3 mark after topping John Bartram 75-61 in their PIAA opener.

“They are very good,” said Becahi head coach Scott McClary. “You don’t go through a season with only three losses like they have by accident.”

The Lions are a guard driven team led by Shane Cohen, who scored 21 points and registered six assists in their win last Friday night. They also got 16 points from Jordan Zoubroulis, but saw Joey Cerruti score a team-high 25 points, including four, three-pointers on the night.

Slowing down their guards will be one of the keys for McClary’s team if they want to advance to this Friday’s quarterfinal round.

“Their guard play is their strength,” said McClary. “They’re quick, tough and very skilled. They are extremely well coached. We have an advantage at the five position and will need to try to dictate the game through that spot. This should be an excellent game, as we would expect nothing less now in the sweet 16 of the state.”
