Hawks are motivated

Bethlehem Catholic won the District 11 2A title last season and the Hawks show no signs that they want to relinquish that crown.

Despite bringing in a team with no seniors this year, head coach Jeff Koch doesn’t think it’ll be a rebuilding season for the Hawks, who finished last year 9-8.

“Our team consists of no seniors,” Koch said. “Even without that senior leadership we seem to have a group of motivated young men, who realize the future of the boys volleyball program at Beca is very bright. A lot of our guys have been putting in hard work during the offseason by playing club volleyball and working out with their own personal trainer. I expect us to get better and better and better as the season progresses.”

That youth movement will consist of Dylan Zambo (middle hitter), Jacob Sledz (libero), Nathan Estock (defensive specialist) and Nick Greenawalt (outside hitter).

Koch also figures to see plenty of playing time for Brent Brown (setter), Pat Metzger (outside hitter), Alex Santostefano (middle hitter) and Aaron Sudigala (opposite hitter).

“Dylan Zambo, Nick Greenawalt, and Jacob Sledz are players to watch as our offensive and defensive leaders,” said Koch. “Our goals are to compete in the top-four for the EPC title, win the district championship and compete for the 2A state title. We will achieve these goals by truly having the mindset to get better every time we step on the court. The ceiling is high for our volleyball program. It will be exciting to see the team we become as we work our way through the season.”
