Young Hawks team looking to battle

Youth will be a theme for Bethlehem Catholic’s baseball team this season, but head coach Mike Grasso won’t let that stop the Hawks from pursuing their goals this season.

Grasso, who enters his 32nd season, is always optimistic about his team’s chances.

“You know we have a young team and a young group of pitchers,” he said, “but these kids are working hard and I’m sure that they’re going to fight to be very competitive.”

Becahi finished 8-13 a year ago and bring a solid core from last year’s team including: Sr. OF-P Anthony Indelicato; Sr. OF-P Joe Peacock; Sr. INF Nate Petke; Sr. INF Matt Moyer; Sr. OF Cole Roche; Sr. OF Kevin Yusella; Sr. INF-OF Gabriel Jauregui; Jr. INF-P Matt Caricari; Jr. OF-P David Ciaccio; Jr. OF-P Mike Luchetta; Jr. INF-P John O’Connor; Jr. OF-C Anthony Aach; So. C Matt Martinez and So. INF-P Hunter Cantwell.

With Indelicato being the lone pitcher returning from last year, Grasso knows he’ll need other arms to emerge if the team will compete with the likes of a loaded Liberty team, defending district champion Freedom and an always tough Easton squad in their own division.

“We know it’s a very difficult division,” said Grasso. “Liberty has a ton of pitchers back and Freedom and Easton are always tough. We need our pitching staff to develop because in high school baseball, that’s the most important thing. I think we’ll be fine defensively, but we’ll need to score runs and get better on the mound.”
