LHS girls eye postseason

Thursday, April 4, 2019 by Peter Car in Sports

After finishing last season with a 5-12 record, Liberty’s girls lacrosse team is hoping they can take a leap into postseason contention.

Laurie Muller enters her third season at the helm of the program and expects to take steps forward from last year’s campaign.

“My goal for our team is to make the playoffs for the first time,” said Muller. “I feel that we have the ability to make a presence this year in the league and force competitive games.”

Returning players for the Hurricanes include McKenna Burkhardt Senior, midfield; Sadie Abboud senior, attack; Ava Askerneese senior, attack; Jessica Del Corso senior, defense; Madison Muller senior, defense; Sarah Krause senior, defense; Mia Del Corso junior, midfield; Brooke Veit sophomore, midfield; Savannah Wooten sophomore, goalie; Catherine Nguyen senior, attack and Alicia Chambers senior, midfield/defense.

New players in the fold are Emma Gray sophomore, attack and Hannah Stein junior, midfield.

With an experienced team on the field this season, Muller hopes this can be a historic campaign for the program.

“We are returning all but three starters from last year,” she said. “My players have been on the field together for two years and work well together. This preseason we have been working extremely hard on our technical skills to be ready for the start of the regular season games.”
