Freedom’s track and field team hosted Liberty to end the regular season last week when the Hurricane girls won, 105-45.

Top finishers included Gabrielle Phillips in the 100 in 12.60, Essynce Botz in the 200 in 26.80, Yamilet Ferrufino in the 400 in 1:02.00, and Greta Stuckey in the 800 in 2:24.00, all for Liberty.

For Freedom, Lauren Charboneau won the 1600 in 5:43.00, and the 3200 in 12:18.00, and Lola Willey won the 100 hurdles in 17.80.

Liberty’s Alicia Rodriguez won the 300 hurdles in 50.40.

“The first 200, you’re getting the feel of it. Then the last hundred is where you push through because it’s the hardest and that’s when everything lines up,” Rodriguez said. “My start was a little bit rough but my last 75 meters was good and then I hit the last hurdle but it still was OK. I know we were all really close to each other at the 100 mark but from there I pulled away.”

Botz, Gabrielle Phillips, Rodriguez, and Catherine Kelly took first place in the 4x1 relay in 51.40. Liberty’s girls won the 4x4 relay (names unavailable) in 4:21, and Emily Jobes, Kristen Rommens, Barbara Perevalov, and Christi Yanacek took first in the 4x8 relay for the Hurricanes in 10:58.

In jumping events, Kelly was first in the high jump with a 4-07.00, and the long jump with a 16-08.50, Freedom’s Madison Fey was first in the pole vault with a 9-00.00, and Phillips won the triple jump with a 33-02.50.

In throwing events, Liberty’s Jaida Davis won the shot put with a 31-07.25, Freedom’s Isabel Rodriguez was first in the discus with a 88-10, and Liberty’s Brylee Tereska won the javelin with a 118-11.50.
