Thursday, May 30, 2019 by Katie McDonald kmcdonald@tnonline.com in Sports

Freedom’s softball season came to an abrupt conclusion when its district playoff run was ended by Emmaus, 1-0, in eight innings last Tuesday at Emmaus.

Patriot pitcher Jen Slanovec had 11 strikeouts and gave up one run and five hits over seven innings.

Madison Piripavel, Brenna Ortwein, and Gabby Glick had one hit apiece for Freedom.

Ortwein’s hit came in the first inning before Taylor Resetar reached first base on an error, and Ortwein advanced to second.

Piripavel led off the second inning with a double to left field and advanced to third base on a ground out.

Glick led off the third inning on a base hit to center field, but again, the Patriots could not score.

Both teams were held scoreless for four more innings.

A fly out, ground out, and another fly out for the Patriots in the eighth inning led to a double and an RBI single for the Hornets to end the game.

Coached by Michele Laubach, the Freedom Patriots won the Steel Division of the East Penn Conference with a division record of 9-1.

The Patriots won the first round of EPC playoffs against Stroudsburg before losing to Parkland.

In district playoffs, Freedom had a first-round bye before their loss to Emmaus.

The Patriots will graduate only two seniors, Resetar and Jayla Irvin.
