‘Be confident taking your turn’

The Bethlehem Area School District held its sixth annual academic signing ceremony June 4 in the Haupert Union Building at Moravian College. Twenty-one academic scholars combined from Liberty and Freedom high schools attended with family members and enjoyed a luncheon prior to actually signing their commitment documents.

Attendees were greeted by Dr. Joseph Roy, superintendent of schools. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Jack Silva said, “Today’s ceremony is one of our absolute favorite days of the year.”

Jennifer and Louis Chomo attended to support their son Justin, and said they were “proud, just so proud,”of all of the students in attendance. Justin plans to major in mechanical engineering and computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Academic scholars from Liberty and the schools they will attend are Sadie Abboud (Johns Hopkins University), Vivek Adury (University of California, Berkeley), Lucia Ardizzone (College of the Holy Cross), Grace Haas (Syracuse University), Raj Kundu (Duke University), Elisabeth Lee (Cornell University), Selena Liu (Penn State University), Mitchell Murtha Jr. (Villanova University), Ryan Wycherley (Lehigh University) and Julia Zheng (Yale University).

Academic scholars from Freedom are Christina Chen (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Anjali Chhugani (Temple University Honors Program), Olivia Chhugani (Temple University Honors Program), Zachary Chomitzky (Villanova University), Justin Chomo (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Megan Forst (Hofstra School of Engineering and Applied Science), Twinkle Gupta (Stevens Institute of Technology), Anjini Patel (Villanova University), Morgan Philpot (University of Pennsylvania), Sahil Shah (Temple University Honors Program) and Emma Sonnenblick (Tufts University).
