Three area girls make Cup team

While Bethlehem Catholic infielder Addison Roche and Liberty infielder Julia Luisser will play on Lehigh Valley’s Carpenter Cup team for the second time, Freedom pitcher Jennifer Slanovec will be one of nine newcomers to the team whose first game is scheduled for June 18 at FDR Park in Philadelphia.

“I wanted to be able to represent the area and play with the best of our area,” said Slanovec. “I know people who have played in the past and thought it would be a great experience.”

Part of that experience will be the opportunity to play in front of college coaches.

“It motivates me because I’ve been playing on a high-level travel team since eighth grade, so I will want to work harder to impress them,” she said. “I can pitch well to support the team and help them win, and bat well to score runs for the team.’

Slanovec believes her batting has improved this past season when the Freedom Patriots won the Steel Division of the EPC.

“I’ve gained more confidence because of my tournament coaches, [Freedom] Coach Laubach, and my pitching coach,” Slanovec said.
