LLL 12U beats Solehi
Lehigh Little League’s 12U tournament team pitcher Andrew Bowser got out of a bases-loaded third inning against Southern Lehigh, setting the stage for Jacob Matthews sacrifice fly that scored Elliot Berk and put Lehigh ahead, 1-0, in Lehigh’s 5-0 victory in the District 20 tournament on Thursday at Lehigh.
Lehigh added three runs in the fifth inning after Kam Kensicki was hit by a pitch, Jacob Strong singled, and Jaxon Horvath doubled to left center.
“I was kind of nervous because I swung and I was down, and then I took a ball so then I started getting high hopes,” said Horvath. “Since we weren’t scoring any runs, we needed to pound them, and I tried my best to hit a line drive over the infield. I went through first because I didn’t watch where the ball went, and then I heard my coach yell go, go, go.”
Horvath ended up scoring on an error, widening Lehigh’s lead to 4-0.
In the sixth, Connor Martinez and Rocco Sciarra had base hits before Kensicki’s RBI to right field scored Lehigh’s fifth run.
“I was confident about hitting and when he threw a fastball down the middle I knew I was going to snap and whatever happened, happened. Just a line drive,” Kensicki said.
Earlier in the game, Kensicki, Lehigh’s catcher, and Sciarra saved a run during Southern Lehigh’s bases-loaded inning.
“With no outs, a ground ball went to Rocco Sciarra at shortstop. He threw it home as fast as he could and it was a good play,” said Kensicki.
Bowser struck out Southern Lehigh’s next batter, and forced a ground out to end the inning.
Southern Lehigh left two runners on base at game’s end in the bottom of the sixth.
Lehigh remains in the winner’s bracket and will travel to Pennridge on Monday, past Press deadlines due to the July 4 holiday this week.
