NORCO playoffs start

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 by Peter Car pcar@tnonline.com in Sports

The NORCO playoffs kicked off this week and Bethlehem’s Wanderers earned the right to an opening round bye thank to their 16-2 regular season record.

The Wanderers sit at the top of the bracket and will await the winner of the four-five matchup between Freemansburg (9-9) and Wind Gap (9-9).

Northampton (15-3) is on the opposite side of the bracket and have a bye as well, as they will either take on third-seeded Nazareth (14-4) or Bankos (9-9).

The first round best of three series began on Monday and the second round of the tournament is slated for July 11-13.

The championship series is set for July 14-16.

The Wanderers may be the favorites coming into the tournament, but both of their losses this season have come at the hands of Northampton and Nazareth. With both of those teams in the bottom bracket, the Wanderers have the advantage of them battling things out without having to go through both clubs.

Freemansburg picked up a 6-1 win over Wind Gap in their only encounter this season and Bankos may have the toughest hill to climb in the opening round with Nazareth.

In their only contest this season, Nazareth beat Bankos 8-3.
