Lehigh beats VW

Lehigh Little League’s 12U tournament team handed Valley West its first loss in the Section 6 tournament, and with that, took its two-game win streak home on Sunday night with a 3-1 victory won in Southampton, Pa.

“We’re in a pretty good spot,” said Lehigh manager Buck Horvath. “If we win on Tuesday, it’s over.”

Lehigh will take on the winner of Valley West and Council Rock Holland, past Press deadlines. Stroudsburg is the other team in the Section 6 tourney.

On Sunday, Aidan Dancho and Rocco Sciarra pitched three innings apiece.

Valley West scored its only run in the first inning on an RBI triple.

Lehigh scored all three of its runs in the second inning.

Connor Martinez had a leadoff walk, followed by a walk to Andrew Bowser, and an RBI by Sciarra. Justin Frey walked, and Dancho had a 2 RBI single.

Defensively, Lehigh was solid on Sunday.

“Our infield was immaculate today. They made every solid, headsy play,” Horvath said.

With Valley West runners on first and second with no outs in the fifth inning, their leadoff batter lined to Sciarra, and Lehigh turned a double play, ending a potential rally.

Offensively, Lehigh had base runners in every inning, but Horvath thought his team was being too selective with pitches.

“One base hit was enough, but it won’t be enough moving forward,” he said.
