Lehigh 12U falls to Council Rock Holland
Lehigh Little League’s 12U tournament team seemed to be on the verge of a Section 6 championship but dropped its two last games to become runner-up to Council Rock Holland last week.
Last Tuesday, Lehigh gave up five earned runs in the first inning against Council Rock.
“There were a lot of walks, two hits by pitch, passed balls. Before we knew it, we were down 5-0,” said Lehigh manager Buck Horvath. “We chipped away little by little, but we gave up another run, and it was 7-2.”
By the fifth inning, the score was 7-6, but that’s where it stayed.
“One bad inning, it’s hard to dig yourself out of a hole,” Horvath said.
Since both games were played in Southampton, Pa., Council Rock Holland’s home field, Lehigh made the return trip the next day.
Now, Council Rock had their ace pitcher on the mound in addition to their hitters scoring eight runs in the fourth inning.
The final score was 10-0.
“I think we were kind of in shock once they started scoring all the runs, and the majority are 12 years old, so that’s the end of Little League for them,” said Horvath. “Basically, we were a win away from being one of the top eight teams in the state.”
