Anthony Makris, IBEW / WE negotiator

Anthony “Tony” Makris, 90, of Easton, died July 28, 2019, at Lehgh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Alex and Angela (Hartacolis) Makris. He was the husband of Patricia (Rush) Makris for 23 years and of the late Harriet Dexter (Ballweg) Makris.

He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a disabled American veteran.

He was a 60 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union and served in many administrative positions. He was an international representative for more than 26 years prior to his retirement. He negotiated contract agreements, arbitrated grievances and disputes and serviced many local unions. He was instrumental in leading the contract negotiations for the Western Electric Company employees who were IBEW members. More recently, he was the business administrator for the IBEW/Lucent retirees.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Bethlehem.

He was a member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 367 and was a Disabled American Veterans life member.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael, Owen and Brett (Cindy); a daughter, Dexter Hanel (Robert); a sister, Stella Aliferis; two stepchildren, Jim Nimas (Stacy) and Nikki Benjamin (Scott); and 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Gene and Michael N. Makris.

Arrangements were made by John F. Herron Funeral Home Inc., Bethlehem.
