Northampton Community College

Make a ladderback chair Aug.19

There will be a building ladderback chairs classes from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 19 to 23 at Northampton Community College’s Fab Lab, 511 E. Third St.

Members will create a traditional post-and-rung chair using time-tested green woodworking methods to create a sturdy chair while learning principles of differential wood shrinkage.

Book Discussion Group Aug. 15

There will be an open to the public community book discussion of “Educated”, by Tara Westover, from 7 to 9 p.m. August 15 in the Afterwords Cafe, Reeves Library. There will be light refreshments served but you are welcome to bring a lunch with you.

Books are available for purchase from the Moravian Book Store.

Food Processing Basic Oct. 8

Penn State Extension will offer “Food Processing Basics for the Small Business” workshops Oct. 8 at the Penn State Extension Lehigh County office, 4184 Dorney Park Road, Allentown.

The morning session runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon and covers the hazards associated with food and the basic mechanisms for controlling those hazards. The afternoon session runs from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and covers acidified foods and high-acid foods, the specific processing parameters, and how hazards specific to these types of foods are controlled and regulatory requirements.

Participants, who will have the option to register for the morning session, afternoon session or the full-day program, are presented with a certificate of attendance, which can be used as documentation of training for regulatory or third-party audit requirements.
