Liberty’s golf team has a successful day the East Penn Conference (EPC) golf tournament, and they also took a step toward the upcoming district tournament.

The Hurricanes finished second at the EPC tournament behind Emmaus and they also qualified as a team for the district tournament. As a result of Moravian Academy winning the Colonial league title, Liberty was able to notch a district spot.

Jimmy Barker fired a 3-under 76 for a third-place finish and Matt Vital took fifth overall in the individual competition, as the duo is exempt from the district qualifying round at Old Homestead Monday. Joey Altemose took 12th place overall.

“We had a pretty good day,” said head coach Steve Bradley. “We had a great finish to get a district spot as a team, and it was big to have two golfers exempt.

“Jimmy Barker really has been hitting the ball well, and all of our golfers are in a good position to get through to districts in the qualifier Monday.

“These guys are coming on strong at the right time of the season.”

Emmaus’ Michelle Cox was the overall winner with a 74. Northampton’s Nate Wheeler won a playoff and was the highest boy finisher with a 75.

Freedom was led by Jake Haberstumpf who shot an 86.
