Major Thomas Bernard Carroll, Air Force career officer

Major Thomas Bernard Carroll, 79, of Valley Forge and formerly of Bethlehem, died August 25, 2019, in Phoenixville. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of late Arthur P. and Bernadette (Gibbons) Carroll; and stepson of John E. Kinney. He was the husband of Marie Ann (Pursell) Carroll for 59 years.

He was a 1957 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School. He was a graduate of Penn State where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Research Development.

He was a career officer in the U. S. Air Force, and retired in 1980 after 22 years of service at Dyess AFB, SAC in Abilene, Texas; Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi; Truro AFS, Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio; and Space & Missile Systems in Los Angeles, California. He then was a director of Strategy and Systems Engineering at General Electric (later Lockheed Martin); and was a consultant with Lockheed and Booz-Allen.

He was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Wayne.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Arthur Patrick Carroll (Debbie) of Manassas, Virginaia; and Thomas J. Carroll, Esquire, of Bethlehem; and a granddaughter, Patricia K. Carroll of Fort Myers, Florida.

He was predeceased by a son, Michael B. Carroll; two brothers, James F. and Charles A. Carroll; and two stepbrothers, John and James Kinney.
