Pete’s Top-10: Surging Parkland everyone’s worst nightmare

Thursday, November 7, 2019 by Peter Car in Sports

We’re getting down to the wire here of the high school season with season’s ending for several teams in the top-10 a week ago, with more to come this week.

This week’s Freedom-Parkland game is massive in 6A, while Central Catholic and Northwestern highlight the weekend’s other marquee contest.

The 5A title game between Southern Lehigh and East Stroudsburg South also pits two teams from other conferences in an interesting matchup.

With that said, let’s see who survives another week.

1. Nazareth (10-1)

Last week’s rank: #1

Rematch of week 10, but the Rovers won’t have anymore answers.

The Pick: Nazareth 35 - Easton 21

2. Freedom (10-1)

Last week’s rank: #2

When it comes to the postseason, defense matters and the Trojans have given up 19 points over the last four weeks.

The Pick: Parkland 21 - Freedom 17

3. Parkland (9-2)

Last week’s rank: #3

Scary team to be playing now.

The Pick: Parkland 21 - Freedom 17

4. Central (7-4)

Last week’s rank: #4

This might be the toughest game of the week to pick. Nod goes to the EPC team.

The Pick: Central Catholic 27 - Northwestern 24

5. Becahi (7-4)

Last week’s rank: #5

Never easy to make a trip to Pottsville.

The Pick: Bethlehem Catholic 28 - Pottsville 14

6. N’western (10-1)

Last week’s rank: #8

This game might come down to the difference in coaching staffs.

The Pick: Central Catholic 27 - Northwestern 24

7. Easton (7-4)

Last week’s rank: #7

A shot at redemption for Easton.

The Pick: Nazareth 35 - Easton 21

8. N’ampton (9-2)

Last week’s rank: #9

Kids made huge strides this season. Should only help them moving forward.

9. Emmaus (6-5)

Last week’s rank: #6

Emmaus hung tough all season, but just didn’t have enough playmakers.

10. So. Lehigh (10-1)

Last week’s rank: #10

Can you really pick a Pocono team to win here?

The Pick: Southern Lehigh 28 - East Stroudsburg South 21

Last week’s record: 8-0

Overall record: 69-13
