Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute’s mobile mammography coach to do screenings at Roma

Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute part of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) will be offering screening mammograms 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 10, 2019, at Roma Corporate Center, 1605 N. Cedar Crest Blvd., South Whitehall.

On average, the mammogram takes less than 15 minutes.

According to information provided by LVHN, the 3D Mammography Coach uses a Peplink EPX 15 Cellular SD-WAN router, which provides real-time imaging, as if clinicians were providing the mammogram in the hospital.

Commonwealth, County celebrate 30 years of farmland preservation Fink family honored for 200 years of farming

The Lehigh County Agricultural Land Preservation Program and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Farmland Preservation celebrated 30 years of permanently preserving farms for agricultural production during a ceremony June 7 at Heidel Hollow Farm, Germansville.

David and Sonia Fink, owners of Heidel Hollow, were recognized as having a Bicentennial Farm for 200 years of family farming.

More than 5,270 farm owners, through state and county programs, have preserved more than 550,000 acres.

This number has Pennsylvania leading the nation in the number of farms and acres preserved.

Terry Plinke has been named the new advertising director for the Lehigh Valley Press’ eight weekly newspapers.

Plinke started her career in medical laboratory sales in 1976.

She and her husband, Richard, worked together in Outdoor Marketing Systems, creating transit advertising for bus shelters and on buses.

Born and raised in Reading, Berks County, the mother of three adult sons and her husband live in the West End of Allentown.

Skimming devices found on gas pumps

State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, and the U.S. Postal Inspector are investigating numerous gas pump skimming devices placed on gas pumps at the Top Star gas station and convenience store, 5626 Route 145, Laurys Station, North Whitehall.

According to police, three skimming devices, which could not be detected from outside the pump or by the individual pumping gas, were found Aug. 30 inside different gas pumps.

The devices appeared to be possibly placed on the pumps on or before Aug. 9 through Aug. 30, when they were removed.

Take a family trip to the country on Open Gate Farm Tour Oct. 16

The annual Open Gate Farm Tour, sponsored by Penn State Extension, Lehigh County, will take place 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16

Visits to the sites are free. The farm tour will take place rain or shine.

1. Venture Farms, 5728 Fritzinger Road, Germansville

Venture Farms is a self-contained horse farm that also grows its own hay. They board, lease, do pony parties, trail rides and breed some Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, mini horses and donkeys.

Lehigh County commissioners are deciding how to handle a letter from Freedom From Religion Foundation telling the board to stop using the county seal due to the Latin cross at the center.

According to information provided by the Pennsylvania Pastors Network, the November 2014 letter to County Executive Tom Muller from FFRF states: "We urge the county to immediately discontinue using this seal and to develop a new seal that is both constitutional and representative of all citizens."
