City police made a number of alcohol-related early-hour arrests Sept. 2.

Two unidentified men were arrested for DUI minutes after midnight on Oberly and East Fourth streets, the latter following a crash into a parked car.

Almost simultaneously, officers observed 55-year-old Rogelio Rosa, of East Broad Street, stumbling along near his home. He is charged with public drunkeness.

Just berfore 1 a.m. on Parkhill Street, police arrested 18-year-old Max Leopold of Avon, Conn., for public drunkeness and underage drinking.

Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School is buzzing with activity since it's first day Aug. 27. The 2012-2013 school year hopes to bring excitement and enthusiasm for learning and stimulating trade areas in our community. Our school is looking to engage community members and local businesses in educating our youth along with assisting our faculty to improve student achievement, attendance and standardized test scores.

Ginsburg's realism at Baum

The Baum School of Art, 510 Linden St., Allentown, is presenting "Max Ginsburg: The Social Realist Master," Sept. 12 - Oct. 19 in the David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries.

Ginsburg, a native of New York City, is one of the most highly-respected and accomplished social realist American painters. He credits his father, Abraham Ginsburg, a portrait painter, for providing him with a strong, traditional artistic foundation.

Daniel McNeill, former Whitehall Township executive with a strong union background, wasted no time getting his campaign started for state representative in the 133rd District.

The state Democratic Committee on Monday tapped the 65-year-old Hokendauqua resident as the party's candidate.

"This isn't an 'I, I, I' position," McNeill said in his remarks to committee members at the Fullerton fire hall Sunday. "This is a 'we' position and I believe we have to approach this as a team."

Civic Theater's '8' benefits Network

A one-night-only reading of "8," Dustin Lance Black's new play chronicling the challenge to California's Proposition 8, will be presented at 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at Civic Theatre of Allentown's 19th Street Theatre, 527 N. 19th St., Allentown.

Proceeds from "8," presented through a special agreement with American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact, benefit the Pennsylvania Diversity Network.
