Steel plant trestle study begins

The City of Bethlehem, working with the Bethlehem Redevelopment Authority, will undertake a planning and design study of the Hoover-Mason Trestle. The trestle, at the site of the Sands Casino and owned by Sands BethWorks retail, LLC, was used to carry ore cars from the ore yard area to the blast furnaces.

The goal is to provide more connectivity between that portion of the site and the Sands Bethlehem Casino Resort, its amenities and any future development along East First Street.

Bethlehem police have released the final tally of arrests made at this year's Musikfest, and the numbers, particularly for violence-related incidents, are down from last year.

Arrests for underage drinking and public drunkenness have remained steady – around 20 incidents each – while a mere eight charges of disorderly conduct were filed this year as opposed to last year's 33. Disorderly conduct is the typical charge for people fighting, police said.

The list provided by police did not include DUI arrests believed to be Musikfest related.
